Tried the deep dish pizza at Pizza Papalote's in Rivertown while visiting Detroit from out of state, and it completely surprised us. We're usually NYC-style thin crust fans, so we expected the deep dish to feel heavy and dough-heavy — but it didn't at all! It had a lighter feel than typical deep dish, which made it easy to enjoy even for thin-crust loyalists. You could still taste a nice tomato tang from the marinara sauce, which balanced things out well. The veggie deluxe pizza was the standout — packed with flavor and easily the best item we tried.
We'll definitely be back next time we're in town!

Pizzapapalis – This location is perfect if you’re visiting the Riverwalk. I was so happy to discover this branch because I had been craving their famous deep pan pizza for so long.
The deep pan is honestly my favourite pizza. It arrives thick, hot, cheesy, and packed with flavour. The crust is soft inside with a golden, slightly crispy edge, and you can really taste the difference compared to a regular pizza. It’s the kind of pizza that feels comforting and filling after a long day exploring the city.
The service was great, and the atmosphere felt relaxed and welcoming. I would definitely suggest calling in advance if you do not want to wait around 45 minutes for the pizza to be served. A proper deep pan takes time to bake, and you can tell it’s made fresh. From previous experience, I ordered ahead before arriving and it was ready when I got there, which made the experience even better.
The seating is comfortable, not grand or fancy, but cozy enough to sit back, relax, and enjoy a really satisfying meal.

You have not had pizza till you've had a deep juicy seafood. It's super fantastic it does taste as good as it looks bring the family or get a carry out

I was born in the south side of Chicago and I should say this pizza is an absolute disgrace to Chicago Pizza. My work bought us this pizza in hopes of boosting morale.... Not quite sure what the expectation in boosting morale was with this pizza. Seeing that it's awful. It just made me want to work less. I actually ended up going home early because the baby was kicking if you know what I mean, my stomach wasn't exactly feeling too hot. I don't know if anyone's ever been to a CiCi's Pizza buffet but this crust is about on par with how bad that is. The cheese bread was about as dry as an 80-year-olds... The garlic bread was well kind of like rubber from a shoe. I don't know if it was just stale or what. Wouldn't recommend. My co worker found a piece of plastic in a slice of his deep dish. Plenty of other better pizza options. Literally pick anything else. I'm writing this review the next day and I should say my stomach has not been this tore up since I was a drinker which has been 4 years.
