This was one of the most insane experiences I’ve ever had at a hotel. Upon check in at 11 pm, I went up to my room to find someone sleeping in the bed! I also had multiple colleagues with the same issue — either they were assigned to a room someone was already in, or they had someone walk into their room. This is way too major of a safety concern to be happening so much at one hotel and in one weekend alone! What ensued after left me speechless. I was reassigned to 5 different rooms, each one dirtier than the last: dirty pads in the garbage, rooms filled with cigarette smoke, and literal feces on the wall. Many rooms had an unbearably loud mechanical sound (maybe the elevators, I suspect?) I was finally placed in a decent enough room. Loud and outdated, but decent. Then, to top it all off, I was stuck in an elevator alone that was traveling at full speed between floors 1-70 nonstop for minutes at a time. My ears were popping from the altitude change and the doors were shaking. It stopped at random floors: 5 and 40, but doors never opened. No buttons were working, including the emergency call button. Finally, I was let out on the 60th floor (not where I was heading). I spoke to several employees and managers. The front desk staff were nice and did the best they could, but it was clear that these issues were common — no one was surprised. I was offered complimentary breakfasts and a few points here and there, but the entire experience was just absolutely wild and I didn’t leave feeling like safety was a priority at this hotel, nor was I compensated appropriately for the horrible, uncomfortable, and flat out unsafe situations I experienced in the mere 4 nights I stayed here. I cannot in good conscience recommend this hotel, or even Marriott, at this point.

The lobby is impressive, modern and clean. The Fuel restaurant and pantry are very good with plenty of choices. Our room was on the 61st floor it was clean with amazing views of both the city and the Canada. The bathroom could use a solid remodel. The staff for the most part was great.

The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The rooms, hotel, restaurant and conference rooms were very clean. The carpet was pretty gross. The gym was awesome and the staff was very nice to provide me with water. The conference room was good. The food was pretty good for our meetings and the views were spectacular of the city and the water.

The view was absolutely stunning! We loved Fuel restaurant as well! My only complaint was the service. I’m allergic to Down Feathers and most hotels only have Down pillows. This one had Down pillows and a blanket. I have a growing allergy to Down and wasn’t prepared for my asthma issues that were going to occur. I didn’t know they had “feather free” rooms until after we were there. We tried to call the lobby from the room phone to put in a pillow request, but the phone was broken. So I tried calling the lobby from my phone and I could only reach the reservation line. I explained my issue and frustration with contacting the lobby and the reservation company guy was very rude, but he got me in touch with the lobby. I FINALLY had a request put in for pillows. Then I waited 2 hours before I called again because we were waiting to go to sleep until I got the pillows. Then the manager brought up the pillows personally, which was so so so nice, but he brought 2 Down pillows and I obviously can’t have those. We didn’t notice until he already left. So my husband went down and explained and they put in another request for us. And 3 HOURS later I got my pillows and a blanket that were NOT Down. The first request I put it was at 9:51am and I finally got my proper pillows at 3am. I wasn’t trying to be a “Karen” I just really wanted to sleep. They explained to me they were understaffed and I get it, but I feel like 5 hours of waiting for pillows and a blanket was crazy. And before anyone says anything, I tried going to the front desk, but you still had to wait for your request to get anything at all.

Dianne was amazing!!! We hosted a wedding next door to the Detroit Marriott Renaissance Center in August, so we booked a block of rooms for family and friends, as well as 2 Suites for the wedding party. After signing the contract, Dianne immediately called us and walked through every detail, including things we had not thought of. We later dropped off the gift bags for our guests, and Dianne met us in the lobby to talk through the wedding day again. She even checked back in with us via text at various points during the wedding weekend to make sure everything was going smoothly. The hotel staff was prompt, attentive, and treated all our guests with care. We love staying here, and the wedding weekend was icing on the cake.
