Really impressed with this hotel. I was worried that it may not be as nice and comfortable as some of the other Marriott’s I’ve stayed at but I was pleasantly surprised. You can tell that the hotel has been renovated. Rooms have great views of Detroit river and location is ideal. And not to mention, the great customer service. As soon I walked in, I was greeted by Richard. Perfect person to have in guest services. Very personable, outgoing and knowledgeable in regards to the services that the hotel offers. Overall, very happy with this stay.

This is an incredibly solid 3 star style Courtyard Marriott.
What stands out:
The people - the woman at the front desk, at both check-in and check-out was exceptional. Her friendly vibes were appreciated. She was also quick, thorough and considerate. I am so sad I didn’t write down her name for a shoutout. At Valet, Rahaman was great. He was fast and friendly with my car.
The gym: the gym, pool and hot tub all lunch way above their weight for a standard Courtyard Marriott.
The location: directly across from the Renaissance Center and the Windsor tunnel.

Upon arrival, 8:30 pm, we weren’t sure how to get into the hotel because doors are locked and must have a passkey or buzz in to security. Our room was clean and very spacious. One 1️⃣ note, the transition piece into the shower could be a bit higher so water stays in the shower not on the floor (slip hazard) ⚠️ nothing a towel can’t handle. The key card is used to access the floors in the hotel and the entry door in the evening. Great view of Canada 🇨🇦 and the boardwalk on the river.

The stay was good. Small lobby. Not a typical courtyard hotel as no bistro/bar, it’s only IHOP and Applebees in the lobby. Close to the river walk, and the people mover comes into the hotel.
Unfortunately at the end of our stay we had a few hours before our flight and the hotel would not allow us to hang out at pool. Claiming it’s a “liability”. This is the first hotel in the USA that has denied access the day of check out.
I will choose a different hotel to stay in the next visit to Detroit. There are many other choices.

I am a Bonvoy member and stay at Marriott often. This was my 1st visit to Detroit. I had some mishaps during check in and subsequent interactions with the front desk. The assistant manager figured everything out and came through. My frustration level was mounting at one point and I had to explain the situation to several teammates
Several great points:
1. Perfect location
2. Coachable staff
3. Excellent housekeepers on 19th floor, i didn't get her name but she was very helpful
4. Location was secured at night
5. On site dining options
I don't expect perfection from people, so I showed some grace. Next time I'm in Detroit, I will love to be a guest again.
