In town for a red wings game stayed here on a Sunday-Tuesday.
The location is pretty good. You're not quite in the center of town but you are pretty walkable to downtown or to the various venues in the city. Ubers were not a problem to find, usually super quick.
The casino here is fine. Plenty of slot options but tables are few and far between with really bad settings, like 6:5 black jack and mandatory side bets at the 10$ tables. Honestly, the vibe of the casino is pretty drab and depressing. No life, no cheering, no happiness, no winning, just people losing their money.
The hotel is pretty good. My rate in mid January on off nights was 108$ per night, which for that rate, you get tons of value. The room is spacious and clean for you're basic King room. Honestly, no complaints on the hotel side. I'm not sure this place qualifies as a 5 star hotel like the internet says. Its for sure a 4 star. Its showing it's age a bit, but overall its very good for a few nights stay. Don't think I would want to pay anything over 250$ a night for this place.

Clean, organized gaming floor. Bathrooms attended to nicely! Go to Tap. Excellent food, the Michigan battered fish plate was spectacular and the tiramisu cake was perfectly decadent for dessert. Brandi at the bar was astounding. Making sure everything was good. Brandi was so excellent I making sure she is my bartender on my next trip and yes there will be a return trip. That good.

We arrived at about 4pm on a Friday 1/16 for our 3 night stay at the hotel. We waited in a moderately long and very slow moving valet line, and went inside to wait in a short but even slower moving check-in line. Once we got to the front, we explained that we were staying in a room that had been booked for us by a family member for the bereavement of my husband’s father, and they responded shortly, saying we wouldn’t be able to check in ourselves, that we’d have to have the family member who booked the room check in online and then we could get back in line and. heck in again. Once we did that, we were told our room was not ready. We had several bags with us. Nobody offered to hold our bags or told us where to sit, so we held our bags with us and sat on the cold floor in the lobby in a low traffic area. After waiting for 30 minutes there, a security guard saw us and kindly offered to have us wait in the warm waiting area of the lobby behind locked doors, where several other parties seemed to also be waiting for rooms. I was confused why this wasn’t offered to us by the concierge desk. Once we were in there, we went back to the front desk several times to check on our room, and were told there was no estimate as to when our room would be ready. At 5:30, we checked one final time. They finally offered to call housekeeping for n estimate. Housekeeping could not offer us an estimate, so we decided to leave until we got the text or call that our room was ready. When we asked them to validate our parking, the concierge barked that our room wasn’t ready again. We asked to have her just please validate so we can leave and come back. We never received a call or text, and decided to go back to the hotel at 8:30. Our room was ready. I asked if they could check when our room became ready and the woman replied “Around 5pm.” I walked away and immediately burst into tears with frustration. A mix of grief, hurt, and frustration for sure, but the lack of empathy or humanity from the staff is just not okay.

MGM Casino offers a solid overall experience. The casino floor is spacious with plenty of gaming options, and the atmosphere is lively. Some areas can get crowded during peak hours, but staff generally handles things well. Food and drink options are good, though a bit pricey. Overall, a fun place to spend an evening.

It’s a favorite of mine. Went for the first time in October and had a great time. Stayed in a one bedroom suite - newly renovated - (compliments of MGM rewards), and it was awesome! It would rival Aria suites in Las Vegas. The decor was perfect. There is a refrigerator and coffee maker in this room too. The king bed was just perfect. The bathroom was astonishing with the deep soaking tub. MGM Grand Detroit hotel definitely impressed me. I like that the rooms are not too far from the casino floor.
The casino is a good size. Non smoking works for me. I’m sure they have a smoking area. Lots of table and machines yo choose from. Never felt crowded on the weekend. There were not many restaurants to choose from, but the ones available were good. We mostly ordered room service and they were fast and it was delicious!
We came from Chicago so we had to take an Uber to the hotel. That was a little dicey. One trip was good, but one trip I could have done without. He drove too fast. It’s about 20 minutes to the hotel from the airport.
Would definitely recommend this hotel/casino.
