Stayed here for just one night, and it was a truly bad experience. The hotel is beautiful, but clearly there is not a serious management team in place. We were first assigned a room that had a toilet that would not flush (I discovered this after I used it). When we were moved to another room, the next room was not clean. The bed was messy and there were towels on the floor. We were made to wait in the hallway and wait for a third room to be assigned, and that room was finally clean and ready. Third time's a charm I guess? Our room was comfortable, especially the bed and the shower. The next morning I used the gym and that was very nice too. But on our way out of the hotel, we made the huge mistake of eating at the adjoining restaurant. Before we went to the restaurant, I asked the front desk woman (tall, thin black woman) if I could leave my luggage there while we popped into the restaurant and she looked at me suspiciously and said "If you want to leave it here, I don't have a problem with that." I have never experienced such a response, even from a roadside motel. We made our way into the restaurant after that, where nobody was stationed at the host stand. I stood there for several minutes with employees walking by me as if I was invisible. I finally just made my way to the bar and asked the bartender if I could eat there. She had tatoos all over her face / neck etc. I think she was trained by the same manager as the front desk person. Beyond rude. She actually seemed angry to have to even speak to me. But it didn't take long for me to realize it was nothing personal, because I watched her treat other guests the very same way. The food was expensive and not good, and the service was deplorable.
The owners of this hotel have clearly invested a lot of money in the ambience of the hotel. It's very pretty. But they've employed a staff that is incompetent and offensively rude. I can't imagine this hotel has a general manager.

Wanted to start with the positives - room is gorgeous and the bathtub and shower were out of this world. Bed was comfy. The attached dining and bar areas are stylish and had delicious options. Loved everything we ate and drank.
However, there are some areas I think the hotel needs to address to consider this a high quality hotel. We arrived at 430 pm and were told the room was not ready. We waited over an hour before I asked again and they upgraded us to an available room. Staff did not seem very concerned with making sure it was resolved. I am supposed to have noon check in with my credit card so this is way too long of a wait. There is also a 30 dollar resort fee charge but we were not offered a single one of the amenities. Welcome drink at check in? Where?
Additionally, these rooms overlook a Main Street in downtown Detroit and the noise reflects that. I’ve stayed at other downtown hotels that include ear plugs and noise machines which would have been greatly appreciated. I was up all night due to street noise which isn’t the fault of the hotel but would be nice to be provided amenities to address this.

I enjoyed my time at Shinola Hotel. Valet provided friendly and professional assistance with your luggage and vehicle. Upon checking into the hotel valet assists with your luggage. They wait while you are checked in to carry your luggage to your room. The ambiance is quite amazing. I was able to check up with friends in the stunning hotel lobby! You can order from a limited food menu and drinks while you are occupying the hotel lobby. The hotel is centrally located right next to Trappers Alley and other shopping areas.

We debated between visiting the Shinola again and trying a new hotel downtown. Ultimately, we decided to come back. I will preface this by saying I am a nursing mom and we were looking for a quick getaway for our anniversary. So logistics were important since, if you’ve ever nursed, you know how inconvenient it can be to find a place to pump on the go. I was lucky enough to connect with Tanya at the front desk. She really made our stay the amazing experience it was. She gave us the uniquely personalized customer service that only a boutique hotel can. Tanya arranged for us to have early check-in and late departure so I could pump upon arrival and before we hit the road. This small change that was a huge help for this mom. She was super gracious about it and checked in with us multiple times during our short stay. We are by no means the biggest VIPs the Shinola has, but I felt super special thanks for her kindness.

From the moment I arrived at the Shinola Hotel, Will exemplified exceptional hospitality and professionalism. His warm welcome immediately set the tone for an outstanding stay, and his attention to detail ensured that every part of my visit was seamless.
Will consistently went above and beyond, taking the time to answer questions, provide thoughtful recommendations, and ensure that my accommodations exceeded expectations. His ability to blend professionalism with genuine care is truly commendable and reflects the high standards of the Shinola Hotel.
Thanks to Will’s efforts, my stay was not only comfortable but truly memorable. He played an essential role in creating an experience that I will always remember, and I highly commend his dedication to outstanding guest service.
